Frequently asked questions

Does Garrage sync between my iPhones?

Yes. Your vehicles, entries, reminders, tires and photos sync through your private iCloud database to every iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account. Sync is always on; there is no switch for it in the app. If you are not signed in to iCloud, Garrage keeps your data only on that iPhone.

Settings (units, currency, appearance) are not synced, so set them on each iPhone.

Does Garrage work offline?

Yes. Everything is stored on your iPhone, and Garrage itself never needs an internet connection. Only iCloud sync needs one: changes reach your other iPhones once they are online.

I changed a reminder on one iPhone, but the other one still notifies me about the old one.

Notifications are scheduled separately on each iPhone, and an iPhone updates them when you open Garrage on it. Until then, a reminder deleted on another iPhone can still send a notification, and a reminder added on another iPhone will not. After changing reminders, open Garrage once on your other iPhones.

When do I get a notification for a mileage reminder?

Garrage checks mileage reminders when you add a new fuel or charging entry. If the odometer reading in that entry is within the distance you set under Notify … before (50 to 5,000, 500 by default), you get a notification.

The check does not run when you edit an existing entry, add a service record, or when entries arrive from another iPhone through iCloud.

Date reminders notify you the number of days before the due date that you choose (1 to 90, 14 by default). If that day has already passed when you save the reminder, for example a due date 5 days away with a notification 14 days before, there is no notification for it.

I don’t get any reminder notifications.

Garrage asks for permission to send notifications the first time you open it. If you didn’t allow it, turn notifications on in the iPhone Settings under Notifications ▸ Garrage. Reminders marked as done don’t send notifications. See also the two questions above.

How do I delete an entry?

Tap the fuel or charging entry, service record, tire set or reminder to open it, then tap Delete and confirm. Swiping a row doesn’t delete it.

A reminder can also be deleted by touching and holding it and choosing Delete. This deletes it right away, without asking for confirmation.

Deletions sync to your other iPhones.

How do I delete a vehicle?

In the list of vehicles, touch and hold the vehicle and choose Delete, or open the vehicle for editing and tap Delete. After you confirm, the vehicle is deleted together with all its fuel entries, service records, tires and reminders, on all your iPhones. This can’t be undone.

How do I back up my data or move it to a new iPhone?

If the new iPhone uses the same Apple Account, iCloud sync brings your data over automatically.

For a copy of your own, go to Settings ▸ Backup ▸ Export Backup. It saves all vehicles, records and photos, plus your units, currency and appearance settings, to a single file in Files or iCloud Drive. The file is not encrypted, so anyone who has it can read it. Keep it somewhere safe.

What does Restore from Backup do?

It deletes all vehicles and records currently in Garrage and replaces them with the ones in the backup file, and applies the settings saved in it. Because of iCloud sync, the data is replaced on every iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account, not just the one you are using. This can’t be undone, so export a fresh backup first if you might still need your current data.

How do I remove all my data, including from iCloud?

Deleting Garrage from your iPhone removes only the data on that iPhone; the copy in iCloud stays. To remove it from iCloud too, either delete each vehicle in the app (this deletes all its records on all your iPhones), or open Settings ▸ [your name] ▸ iCloud, go to your iCloud storage, choose Garrage and delete its data. Backup files you exported are separate files; delete them in Files or iCloud Drive.

How does the pump and receipt scanner work?

When adding a fuel entry, tap Scan pump / receipt and point the camera at the pump display or the receipt. Garrage reads the text on your iPhone and fills in the amount and price for you to check before saving. Nothing from the camera is saved. If your iPhone doesn’t support live text scanning, Garrage tells you, and you can enter the values by hand.

Which units and currencies can I use?

In Settings you can choose:

  • distance: kilometres or miles
  • fuel: litres or gallons
  • fuel consumption: l/100km, mpg or km/l
  • energy consumption: kWh/100km, km/kWh or mi/kWh
  • LPG: kilograms or litres
  • currency: 30 currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, CHF, PLN and more
Can I use Garrage for a motorcycle?

Yes. Garrage works with any vehicle: cars, motorcycles or anything else you refuel, charge and service. There is no separate vehicle type to choose; add your motorcycle like any other vehicle and pick its fuel type.

Does Garrage work with electric and hybrid vehicles?

Yes. Each vehicle has a fuel type: petrol, diesel, LPG, electric or hybrid. For electric vehicles you log charging sessions instead of refuels.

What do the tire features do?

You can keep a summer and a winter tire set for each vehicle, with brand, size, dates, tread depth and where they are stored. Based on the tread depth, a tire set is marked Good condition (4 mm or more), Wear soon (2 to 4 mm) or Replace now (less than 2 mm).

In October and November, if your summer tires were fitted most recently, the Tires tab shows a reminder to switch to winter tires; in March and April, the other way round. This is a banner in the app, not a notification, and you can dismiss it for the rest of the year.

Can I use Garrage on a Mac?

Garrage is made for iPhone. On a Mac with Apple silicon it can be installed from the App Store as an iPhone app, but it hasn’t been designed or tested for the Mac, so some features may not work there.

Is Garrage a subscription?

No. Garrage is a one-time purchase, with no subscription, no in-app purchases and no ads.

Does Garrage collect my data?

No. Garrage has no account, analytics or tracking, and your data stays on your iPhones and in your own iCloud. Details are in the privacy policy.
